About St. Luke's Academy

A developing classical Christian high school in Monroe, Washington, created to serve families seeking a rigorous, Christ-centered education for grades 9–12.

Founder & Headmaster: Dr. Martin R. Zschoche

Dr. Martin Zschoche has spent his life working with young people and those who teach them. His calling to mentor teens began early at age eleven when he started instructing younger Boy Scouts. Since then, he has led youth groups, raised two children and seven grandchildren, and spent decades helping junior and senior high school students grow into thoughtful, responsible young adults.

Education & Training

Dr. Zschoche is a career educator with a strong background in both science and teaching:

  • Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Liberty University

  • M.S. in Education, California Baptist University

  • B.S. in Biological Sciences (Pre‑Med), University of California, Irvine

  • Post‑graduate medical studies at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico

  • Washington and California secondary teaching credentials in Biology, Chemistry, and Earth/Space Science

He has taught middle school and high school science at Christian schools in Washington and California and serves as an adjunct professor of science and secondary science methodology at Northwest University, Kirkland, Washington, training future teachers.

A Life Shaped by Medicine, Ministry, and Education

Dr. Zschoche grew up immersed in the world of medicine. His mother, Donna Zschoche, was a pioneer in critical care nursing, founding key programs and organizations that shaped modern hospital care. Working alongside her, he gained a deep respect for scientific rigor and compassionate care—values that now shape the way he approaches science education and the formation of young people.

Alongside his academic work, Dr. Zschoche has spent many years in Christian ministry and youth leadership:

  • High school youth leader and catechist

  • Long-time volunteer and leader in Civil Air Patrol (USAF), mentoring cadets ages 12–20 in leadership, character, and service

  • Instructor and trainer in leadership programs and accelerated learning environments

These experiences have convinced him that teens thrive when they are given real responsibility, clear expectations, and wise, Christ-centered mentors.

Author & Classical Christian Educator

Dr. Zschoche has written for teachers and schools, including:

  • The Gospel of Education: Good News for Great Teachers (2020)

  • The Illustrated Page: Classroom Management from the Work and Wisdom of David P. Page (1810–1848) (2025)

His work reflects a love for classical education, the Great Books, and the wisdom of earlier generations of Christian educators.

Vision for St. Luke’s Academy

As Founder and Head of School at St. Luke’s Academy for the Arts and Sciences, Dr. Zschoche brings together:

  • A deep Christian faith, rooted in Scripture and the early church

  • A strong scientific and medical background

  • A lifelong love for teenagers, teachers, and the art of teaching

Following the example of St. Luke—physician, author, and artist—he desires to see students formed into young men and women who love Christ, think clearly, delight in beauty, and serve others with wisdom and integrity.

Our purpose is to form students who love God, pursue truth, and live wisely and courageously. We aim to cultivate both academic excellence and Christian character, preparing graduates for college, vocation, service, and faithful Christian living.

We are building a school rooted in Scripture, shaped by the great Christian intellectual tradition, and committed to forming thoughtful, disciplined, and joyful students.

Our Story: How St. Luke’s Academy Began

St. Luke’s Academy for the Arts and Sciences grew out of a simple but pressing question: Where can Christian teenagers receive a rigorous education in both the arts and the sciences, shaped deeply by Scripture and the wisdom of the historic church?

After decades of teaching middle and high school science, training future teachers, and mentoring youth in churches and leadership programs, Dr. Martin Zschoche began to see a consistent need. Many families longed for a school that would:

  • Take intellectual formation seriously—especially in science and mathematics

  • Honor beauty and creativity through the arts

  • Ground every subject in a robust, historic Christian faith

  • Support parents as the primary disciplers of their children

Drawing on his background in medicine, education, and ministry, Dr. Zschoche envisioned a classical Christian high school named for St. Luke, the New Testament physician, author, and (by tradition) artist—someone who embodies the union of scholarship, science, and the arts in service to Christ.

The founding work began in Monroe, Washington, with prayer, careful planning, and conversations with local parents, pastors, and educators. St. Luke’s Academy is being established as a nonprofit Christian school, beginning under Washington State’s Home-Based Instruction provisions and intentionally moving toward full recognition as a private school and future ACCS accreditation.

From the beginning, the goal has been clear: to form students who love the Lord with heart, soul, mind, and strength, and who are prepared to serve Him faithfully in every calling—whether in the lab, the studio, the classroom, or the wider world.

Our Mission

Our mission is to partner with Christian families in and around Monroe to provide a rigorous classical Christian high school education that forms students into young men and women who love God, pursue truth, practice virtue, and communicate with wisdom and grace in every sphere of life.

Our Vision

  • A local community of learning where Christ is honored in every classroom and relationship.

  • Graduates who are rooted in Scripture and equipped to think clearly in a confused age.

  • A school that serves as a natural continuation of local Christian K–8 education.

  • Alumni who enter college, careers, families, and churches as thoughtful and courageous disciples of Jesus Christ.

Why We Are Forming This New School

Families in and around Monroe often face a difficult choice once their children reach high school: sending them far from home, enrolling them in public schools that may conflict with Christian values, or homeschooling without strong academic community.

Provide a rigorous education rooted in historic Christian faith
Partner with Christian families and local K-8 schools
Form students in wisdom, character, and maturity
Build a serious academic and spiritual community

Our Philosophy of Education

CHRIST IS LORD OVER ALL LEARNING

Education is not neutral. Every subject belongs to Jesus Christ and is taught in light of Scripture.

PARENT ARE PRIMARY PARTNERS

Our school exists to partner with families and churches to support Christian formation.

FORMATION, NOT JUST INFORMATION

We are forming wise and virtuous young men and women who love God and neighbor.

HIGH EXPECTIONS HONOR STUDENT

Young people rise to meaningful challenges when supported by clear standards and strong community.

CLASSICAL TRADITION LEADS TO WISDOM

We are forming wise and virtuous young men and women who love God and neighbor.

Why the Name St. Luke

St. Luke's Academy is named after St. Luke, the beloved physician and author of the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts. Luke represents the union of faith, scholarship, and creativity:

A physician committed to healing and service

A careful observer of people and culture

A historian and writer devoted to truth

A model of Christian learning and character

Looking Ahead

St. Luke's Academy is currently in the development phase. As we grow, we will continue building curriculum, faculty, and community partnerships to establish a strong and faithful classical Christian high school for Monroe and surrounding areas. We invite families who share this vision to connect with us.
