Homework Expectations

St. Luke's Academy is academically serious, but we also believe students need family time, church life, and healthy rest.

⏰ 1 – 2.5 hours of homework per night

Homework may include:

  • Reading (Scripture, Great Books, science texts)
  • Written work (essays, responses, lab reports, problem sets)
  • Language practice and memory work
  • Occasional larger projects and test preparation

How We Approach Homework

Purposeful, not busywork

Assignments are meant to deepen understanding and practice key skills.

Age-appropriate

Younger high school students will be closer to 1–1.5 hours, with older students sometimes approaching 2–2.5 hours, especially in advanced courses.

Balanced over the week

Teachers coordinate major tests and projects as much as possible to avoid unreasonable "pile-ups."

Our goal is that students work hard and steadily, but still have time for:

  • Evening meals and conversation with family
  • Participation in church life
  • Appropriate sleep, physical activity, and rest
