The St. Luke’s Academy for the Arts and Sciences Statement Of Faith
St. Luke’s Academy is committed to providing a classical Christian education that nurtures the mind, strengthens the character, and forms students to see the world through a biblical worldview.
St. Luke’s Academy Statement Of Faith
God and the Trinity: We believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He is truly God and truly man, united in one Person without confusion or division.
He lived a sinless life, worked miracles, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the realm of the dead. On the third day He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
The Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father (and, according to the Western tradition, from the Father and the Son).
The Holy Spirit dwells in believers, unites them to Christ, gives new life, empowers them to live in holiness and love, and bestows spiritual gifts for the building up of the Church.
Scripture and God’s Revelation: We believe that God makes Himself known through His creation and His care for the world.
We believe that God has spoken in a unique and authoritative way through the Holy Scriptures.
The Bible is inspired by God and faithfully teaches all that we need to believe for salvation and to live according to His will.
In all matters of faith and life, the Church is called to listen to, trust, and obey God as He speaks in Scripture.
Salvation in Christ: We believe that salvation is God’s free gift of grace, given through Jesus Christ and received by faith.
Christ died for our sins and rose again for our justification.
In Him our sins are forgiven, we are reconciled to God, and we are called to a life of faith, hope, and love.
True faith is living and active, and it is shown in good works that flow from God’s grace at work in us.
The Church: We believe in the one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church.
All who are united to Christ are members of His Body and are united to one another in love.
The Church is called to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, teach the faith, celebrate the sacraments, and practice works of mercy and justice.
The Christian Life: We believe that Christians are called to live in obedience to God’s commandments, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
They are to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love their neighbors as themselves.
We affirm the dignity of every human person as made in the image of God, and we affirm God’s good creation of humanity as male and female.
We affirm marriage, as given by God, as a lifelong union of man and woman, and we affirm chastity in singleness and fidelity in marriage.
Last Things: We believe that Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
There will be a resurrection of all: the righteous to eternal life in the presence of God, and those who reject God’s grace to separation from Him.
We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Our Historical Roots:
We confess that:
● Our faith is grounded in the Holy Scriptures and is in essential agreement with the historic, orthodox Christian faith of the New Testament Church and the early Church Fathers, as summarized in the:
- Apostles’ Creed
- Nicene Creed (A.D. 325/381)
In all things necessary to salvation and godliness, we desire to hold the faith delivered by Christ to His apostles and faithfully handed down by the early Church.
